Devizes RFC is delighted to confirm our 1st & 2nd XV captains for the 2022/2023 season.

Lewis Paget or ‘Padge’ as he is better known, continues to skipper the Saddlebacks this season following our title winning campaign. Lewis has amassed over 200 appearances for the 1st XV, was voted Players Player of the Season 2021/2022 and has also caps playing for Dorset & Wilts Seniors. Lewis plays in the second row although has recently dabbled at number eight on a couple of appearances, before promptly being selected back in the engine room!

Lewis said ‘It’s an honour to lead the club in an exciting season for us. We really enjoyed our rugby last season, playing a good brand of rugby, but we’re now looking forward to testing ourselves at the level we belong, particularly against some illustrious opponents like Newbury, Witney and Buckingham’

Seb Hutchings steps into the 2nd XV captaincy role following the excellent ground work completed by outgoing captain Martin Bills. Seb or ‘Social’ has turned out over 130 times for the 1st XV and has another shed load of appearances playing for the 2nd XV. Seb migrated from the back row into the front row several years ago after losing a yard (or two!) of pace, and has stayed there ever since playing at hooker but now more recently at loosehead prop.

Seb said ‘Playing in the 2nd XV last season was great fun. The lads really got stuck in and put their bodies on the line which resulted in some great wins. We’re going to have to do it again, particularly playing in a higher league but we showed on a few occasions last season we can mix it with the best. I know I’ve got big shoes to fill following the work Billsy put in, but I’m looking forward to it!’

Pre-season training continues Tuesdays & Thursdays up the club from 6.45-8.30pm. Pre-season friendlies have also been scheduled against Chard (H) on Saturday 20th August and Frome (A) on Thursday 25th August. All new
players very welcome particularly those who want to play at a higher level with the 1st XV at Level 6 and 2nd XV at Level 8.
